Dustyboots
Lockhart 2011

Here are some photos of the successful BCA Dusty Boots programme held
in Lockhart November 28th - December 2nd.
8 Broughton College students, their chaplain, a teacher and the local
youth worker spent 3 days cleaning up the church grounds, leading the
end of year assembly at Lockhart Central School and running after
school Kid's Club. I was thrilled to have the fly screens put up at
the rectory!
The week ended with a BBQ enjoyed by the team and parishioners alike.
The time of fellowship was encouraging. The boys and their leaders
expressed the desire to return next year and had already begun to make
plans about what they could do next time.
Reverend Nola Cox

These conferences will be held in Wentworth from 7th to 9th May, 2012
Accommodation for two nights with breakfasts and dinners included as well as a tourist bus trip on Tuesday around the area including a picnic lunch at an all inclusive cost of $230.00. The conference will be interspersed with outings by bus, Picnics, fine dining and Worship.
A $50 deposit needs to be paid to the Diocesan Registry, PO Box 10, Narrandera by the end of January with the balance due mid April.
This is a great opportunity for the women of the diocese to get together and continue the triennial conference started by Betty Clark some 10 years ago when we went to Broken Hill. It is hoped that car pooling from neighbouring parishes can be arranged to get to and from Wentworth.

One trivia question for you.
How many different denominations in Lake? (Population about 1,200)
2 or 3 or 4? If you think about the churches, the answer is 4 (Anglican, Roman Catholic, Uniting, and Baptist)
But, if we look at the individual Christians in the community and include them to the total, the answer is, at least 8!
Adding on to 4 churches, we have Greek Orthodox, Maronite, Syrian Orthodox, and Coptic people, and all of them are the local residents.
I think this is truly amazing to see such a diversity of Christian faith in this small isolated bush community. Also, it is more amazing to see that we have ALL of main stream Apostolic Churches (Anglican Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox Churches) in this little bush community.
On Thursday 2 February, we invited them to our evening Eucharist for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
Eastern Orthodox people are highly regarding the Feast of Presentation, as this Feast Day often concludes their Christmas tide.
The scene from Luke Chapter 2 (Simeon takes baby Jesus in his arms, standing in front of the Temple, together with Anna, Mary and Joseph) is depicted in their favourite Icon Hypapante (or Ypapante), which means the Meeting.
Just before 7 pm, we were very glad to see 11 of them arriving to the service with happy and friendly faces.
Service started at the western end of the church where we have Baptismal Font, Icons and votive candle stands. We blessed the Icons and votive candles there, before the procession went to the sanctuary. In front of the Altar, we set a table on which we placed church candles and personal candles brought by the congregation, for the blessing. Also, a large clay pot filled with sand, in which people's votive candles were lit and placed.
Those votive candles are kept as lit throughout the service as the symbol of people's prayer.
Fr. Paul, in his homily, thanked the guests, for they happily joined us. He said that we are experiencing the same great joy that Simeon expressed. As Simeon called our Lord as 'a Light to reveal you to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel' (Nunc dimittis), here, arriving from various different background to attend this service, we are sharing the light of universal Christ. He added by saying that we are the witness to the Apostolic faith and fellowship in Christ. 'We may be geographically isolated', he said, 'but we are absolutely connected to our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world, as well as to connect each other.'
